Since I can boot off of a USB device, I was hoping that a solution exists that would enable me to: - dump ISOs on to a USB-connected hard drive - create a pick-list of OSs available on the drive - have some sort of daemon tools like utility which would mount the appropriate ISO and start installing the OS.

I suggest you image the XP installation with something like Acronis True Image Home, version 10, to an external, USB connected drive. Then if something goes wrong you can restore to XP quickly, and ATI 10 is Vista compatible. With a hard drive that large, I'd set it up for dual-booting between XP and Vista.
